It is with deep regret that the department announces the passing of life member and former Chief, David Sampson Sr. Chief Sampson joined the Berwyn Heights Fire Department in 1951 and provided many years of service to Prince George’s County. Chief Sampson served in the positions of Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, and Chief. He eventually obtained his life member status in 1966.
Chief Sampson was also an accomplished instructor with the Maryland Fire Rescue Institute where he served many years as a lead for the Rescue Specialist Program.
He served in the US Navy during WWII and retired from the Federal Government as a Machinist/Inspector.
He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia E. Sampson, and sons, John Robert, Michael, Lloyd and Stephen. He is survived by sons, David Glenn (Jan), William (Paula) and daughter-in-law, Barbara Sampson. Grandfather of 14 and great grandfather of 33. Loving companion of Lois Sheldon. Also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 21 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at GASCH’S FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville, MD, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, June 22 at 11 a.m. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD.
