Rescue Squad 14 Extricates 2 Priority Patients in Adelphi

At 0655 hrs on May 19th, Rescue Squad 14B, Chief 14, Chief 14A, and Chief 14B responded to the intersection of Riggs Rd and Hughes Rd for the personal injury accident. Company 34 arrived to find two trapped and upgraded the assignment. Company 14 arrived and stabilized the vehicle. Both patients were found to be priority 1; the driver was extricated by “popping” the driver-side doors. The passenger, who was pinned, was extricated after removing the passenger doors, the roof, and rolling the dash. Company 14 was ready at 0744 hrs.

At 1917 hrs on May 17th, Rescue Squad 14 and Chief 14A responded to the 1900 Blk of North Crest Dr in Hillendale as part of the Rapid Intervention Dispatch for the house fire. Rescue Squad 14 arrived on scene and stood by with the Rapid Intervention Team before clearing at 1945 hrs.

Smoke Showing from Highrise in Adelphi

Shortly before 1600 hrs on May 14th, Rescue Squad 14 responded to Springhill Lake for medic local. While on scene, PSCC dispatched the box alarm for 1836 Metzerott Rd in company 34′s area. Rescue Squad 14 finished assisting the ambulance and cleared shortly after units arrived on Metzerott Rd to find smoke showing from the 8th floor. Company 34 quickly requested the 2nd alarm bringing Rescue Squad 14 and Chief 14A to the scene. The Rescue Squad searched the 8th floor and assisted with the evacuation of residents. Engine companies quickly knocked down fire that started on a balcony and was starting to extend in to the apartment. Chief 14A had division 8.

Rescue Squad 14 Extricates 1: Rt. 1 and Contee Rd

At 0206 hrs on April 29th, Rescue Squad 14 and Chief 14 [McCoy] responded to Baltimore Ave in the area of Contee Rd for the personal injury accident with entrapment involving a county police officer. Company 10 arrived on scene and reported a county cruiser on its side into a pole. Rescue Squad 14 arrived and began stabilizing the vehicle that had come to rest in a precarious position on a parked car and light pole. Once the vehicle was stabilized, Rescue Squad 14 flapped the roof to extricate the officer. Chief 14 had command, and the company was ready by 0302 hrs.

Confined Space Rescue: 6600 Blk Crain Hwy

At 1421 hrs on April 12th, Rescue Squad 14, Technical Support 14, and Chief 14A [Fabrizio] responded with other units to the 6600BLK of Crain Hwy for the confined space rescue. First arriving units found that a worker had fallen approximately 40 feet into a vault at a water treatment plant. Chief 14A [Fabrizio] was assigned the Rescue Group upon arrival, and units from company 14, 6, and 47 constructed a rope system while Haz-Mat personnel conducted air monitoring. The rope system was comprised of a main line with an integrated mechanical advantage and a belay line that was run through a tripod then into the vault. Company 14 was ready for service at 1640 hrs.

Truck Runs 34 House

At 1847 hrs on April 7th, Truck 14 and Chief 14A [Fabrizio] responded to the 3100 blk of Bucklodge Rd for the house fire. First arriving units reported a 2 story single family dwelling with fire showing. Truck 14 conducted a search of the basement and first floor and assisted with opening up the entire house. The crew also controlled utilities and laddered the rear. Company 14 was ready for service at 1958 hrs.

Rescue Squad Completes Extrication in Montgomery

At 1619 hrs on Wednesday March 27th, Rescue Squad 14 responded to the OL of the Capital Beltway between the PG County Line and New Hampshire Ave for the personal injury accident with entrapment. Rescue Squad 14 arrived on scene to find Truck 716 had stabilized a mini-van on its side with struts and a tie-back. Rescue Squad 14′s Officer was assigned the Extrication Group and the crew removed the glass and flapped the roof. Company 14 was ready for service at 1644hrs.

Small Basement Fire in Beltsville

At 1737 hrs on Saturday March 23rd, Truck 14, Chief 14A [Fabrizio] and Chief 14B [Kiernan] responded to the 10600 blk of Hockberry Way for the townhouse fire. First arriving units reported smoke in the house and located a fire in the basement. Truck 14 laddered the house, searched, and opened up in the basement. Company 14 was ready at 1816 hrs.

Metro Drill

On Saturday March 23rd, Company 14 conducted a lifting drill at the Sunnyside Ave Metro Yard. Crews began the drill by going over metro cars with metro employees. The crew was given the opportunity to look at a metro car while it was on a lift, providing a clear view of the underside of a metro car. The crew then practiced lifting a metro car with high pressure air bags to extricate a patient who had been struck by and pinned under a train.

Fire Task-Force in Montgomery

At 1904 hrs on March 22nd, Truck 14, Chief 14A [Fabrizio], and Chief 14B [Kiernan] responded to the 8600 blk of Carroll Ave in Montgomery County for the Fire Task-Force. Initial units found a 3 story apartment building with fire on the top floor and removed one victim. Truck 14 arrived and was assigned to open up the roof and check for extension. Truck 14 had to remove sections of roofing material where a flat roof met a pitched roof due to smoldering insulation. Company 14 was ready for service at 2030 hrs
