Commercial Fire – 6100 Greenbelt Rd – 9 October 2007

At 0453 hours, Truck 14 was alerted to the Target at 6100 Greenbelt Road for the automatic fire alarm.  While enroute, Public Safety Communication upgraded the assignment to a full box alarm, for a reported fire in a trash compactor.

Truck 14 arrived and found smoke showing from the loading dock area on the “C-D” corner.  The truck crew forced entry on side “C”, encountered smoke conditions, and quickly located the fire.  The engine companies stretched lines and put a knock on it.  The truck crew continued their search of the smoke filled area and reported negative on the primary search.  Additionally, fans were setup to remove the smoke and utilities were secured.  Chief 14 (Fusco) responded on the call as well and assisted at the Command post.

After cutting a hole in the top of the compactor and placing a Bresnan distributor down in it to attempt to suppress the concealed fire, Rescue Squad 22 was requested to respond to pull the container away from the building.  Once the container was pulled away from the building, foam was applied and the fire was controlled.

Truck 14 was ready for service at 0654 hours.
