House Fire – 9600blk Autoville Dr – 10 October 2007

Sunday, October 28th started early for the Berwyn Heights Volunteers.  Rescue Squad 14 transferred to Station 8 (Seat Pleasant) at 2259 hours while units operated on a working house fire in Company 23's (Forestville) first-due.  The rescue squad was released at 0114 hours.

Following the transfer, the squad responded on three incidents (two personal injury accidents and one medic local) and the ambulance ran two calls.

As Rescue Squad 14 marked in quarters at 0554 hours from the medic local, Communications advised to standby for the truck.  Soon after, Box 14-14 was transmitted to the 5900 block of Bryn Mawr Road for the house fire.  Truck 14 investigated a light haze in the house and isolated it to a malfunctioning refrigerator.

As the truck cleared the first-due box, Communications advised the truck to standby and transmitted Box 11-02 to the 9600 block of Autoville Drive at 0612 hours.  Chief 14 (Fusco) arrived on scene, reported he had a two story house with fire in an attached garage, and established the Command.  Truck 14 with 6 volunteers arrived moments later, searched the first and second floors, ventilated, and threw ground ladders.

With heavy fire in the attic of the garage extending to the house, the truck crew opened up the first and second floors to provide access for the engine companies.  Much of the fire was able to be knocked once opened up.  Truck 14 checked for extension and overhauled by cutting multiple holes in the roof of the garage and the adjoining walls of the home.

Truck 14 was ready for service at 0847 hours.  Thank you to the Berwyn Heights VFD Ladies Auxiliary for providing snacks and refreshments at the fire scene and making a great breakfast for the crew back at the station.
