At 0847 hours, Rescue Squad 14 was alerted to the 11200 block of Cherry Hill Road for the apartment fire. Engine 411 marked on scene with a two-story, garden style apartment with smoke showing. Rescue Squad 14 arrived on scene and formed the RIT.
With a heavy fire venting from the roof, Command requested the fire taskforce followed shortly by a second alarm alerting Truck 14 with six volunteers at 0857 hours. Truck 14 arrived and completed multiple tasks which included cutting trench cuts on both sides of the fire and opening up on the interior.
Rescue Squad 14 was activated twice during the incident. Early in the incident, units operating on the roof were cut off of their escape by fire. Command ordered the squad to throw a 35-foot ladder to the roof for a means of egress. Additionally, a mayday was later sounded when two firefighters had their masks knocked off when they were struck by a hoseline.
The fire ended up reaching three alarms and two firefighters were transported for minor burns and are listed in good condition.
