Apartment Fire – 9100blk Springhill Ln – 30 January 2008

For the second time of the day, Box 14-09 was sounded to the 9100 block of Springhill Lane for the apartment on fire with reports of children trapped at 1912 hours.  Truck 14, Rescue Squad 14, Chief 14 (Fusco), and Chief 14A (McCoy) responded with 15 volunteers.

The units from 14 arrived on the scene to find a three-story, garden apartment with fire showing from the terrace level on side Charlie.  Chief 14A established the Command.  With reports of people trapped, the truck and squad rapidly conducted a primary search of the fire apartment under heavy fire conditions, and exposure apartments.  Searches turned up negative.  Additionally, the crews threw ground ladders and ventilated.

With fire extending to the second floor, Command requested the second alarm.  As the engine companies arrived, they advanced lines to the terrace level and floors above to cut off the fire.  The fire was knocked down, checks for extension were negative, and Command placed the fire under control.

Company 14 remained on scene conducting overhaul and assisting investigators.  The truck and squad cleared at 2148 hours.
