Extrication – Rt. 295 / Riverdale Rd – 10 November 2007

At 0232 hours, Rescue Squad 14 (SQ814) and Chief 14 (C814 - Fusco) responded to southbound Baltimore Washington Parkway at Riverdale Road for the personal injury accident.  Rescue Squad 14 with 7 volunteers arrived on the scene and found one trapped.  The patient was trapped in an SUV located down a steep embankment in a creek bed with a water depth of up to two feet around the vehicle.

The squad crew started extrication using a spreader and cutter to remove the driver-side doors.  Next, the B-post was removed with a speedway cutter.  Finally, the A-posts were cut and a ram was operated by pushing off a closed spreader to lift the dash off the patient.

The patient was then removed from the vehicle on a backboard and secured in a stokes basket.  The squad crew carried the stokes basket up the steep embankment and the patient was loaded onto a cot.

Rescue Squad 14 was ready for service at 0333 hours.
