 Car Crashes into Glenn Dale House

2013-02-19

At 1427 hrs on February 19th, Rescue Squad and Technical Support 14 responded to the 10800 Blk of Maiden Dr in Company 18′s first due for the car into the house. Initial units found a single vehicle that had crashed into the front of a house, coming to rest in one of the front rooms. Rescue Squad/Technical Support 14 assisted the crew from the Technical Rescue unit in assessing and securing the building before returning to service shortly after 1500hrs.

 Fire Showing From Lanham Townhome

2013-02-17

At 2144 hrs on February 17th, Truck 14, Chief 14A (Fabrizio), and Chief 14B (Kiernan) responded to the 7000blk of Storch Ln for the townhouse on fire. Company 48 arrived to find a 2 story town home with fire showing from the top floor. Truck 14 arrived as the first truck and began a search on the fire floor before assisting with extinguishment and opening up. Truck 14′s Driver and Tillerman opened the roof while the laddermen placed numerous ladders. Chief 14B had Division 2, Chief 14A had Exposure Bravo. Company 14 was ready for service at 2329 hrs.

 2nd Truck on 19 House

2013-02-17

At 0049 hrs on February 17th, Truck 14 and Chief 14B [Kiernan] responded to the 8500 Blk of Shelley Ct in Bowie for the house on fire. Engine 19 arrived to find a two story house with fire showing from an attached garage and the roof. Truck 14 arrived as the 2nd Truck and conducted a search on the 1st and 2nd floor and assisted with ventilation and opening up. The Truck driver, tillerman, and ladderman threw ladders and controlled the utilities. Chief 14B [Kiernan] had division 2. Company 14 was ready by 0239.

 Small Fire in Lanham

2013-02-14
At 1620 hrs on February 14th, Truck 14 and Chief 14A (Fabrizio) responded to the 7500blk of Newberry Ln in Lanham. Initial units found a small kitchen fire that was quickly knocked down. Truck 14 operated as the RIT before returning to service at 1654hrs. Chief 14A had safety.

 One Overturned, One Trapped

2013-02-14

At 0558hrs on February 14th, Rescue Squad 14 responded to the intersection of Old Gunpowder Rd and Greencastle Rd. First arriving units found a single vehicle overturned on its side with the driver trapped. Rescue Squad 14 stabilized the vehicle with wedges, struts, and a tie-back before removing the roof to extricate the driver. Rescue Squad 14 was ready for service at 0628 hrs.

 48 Basement Fire

2013-02-05

At 1328 hrs on Tuesday February 5th, Truck 14 and Chief 14A [Fabrizio] responded to the 9000 Blk of 1st St in Company 48′s area for the house fire. First arriving units reported smoke showing with fire in the ground floor of a 2 story split foyer house. Truck 14 arrived as the first due special service and laddered the building, searched the fire floor, opened up, and ventilated. Utilities were controlled and Company 14 was ready for service at 1554 hrs.

 Remembering Deputy Chief Yvorra

2013-01-29

Today the Berwyn Heights Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Inc. remembers the 25th Anniversary of the Line of Duty Death of Deputy Chief James Yvorra. Chief Yvorra died when a vehicle struck him while operating at an accident scene on the Beltway on January 29, 1988. At the time of his death, he had served as an active volunteer with the Berwyn Heights VFD and Rescue Squad for 11 years, holding every rank through deputy chief and president. Jimmy was a friend, teacher, coach, and mentor to many. He was a nationally recognized author and editor in the fields of fire, hazardous materials, and emergency medical services, as well as a founding member of the Prince Georges County Fire Department Hazardous Materials Response Team.

As with others who have gone before us, his work has made us who we are today. He has been missed and will never be forgotten. Rest in peace brother.

 Rescue Squad Extricates 1: Rt. 197 and Powder Mill Rd

2013-01-27

At 0840hrs on January 27th, Rescue Squad 14, Chief 14 [McCoy], and Chief 14A [Fabrizio] responded to the personal injury accident with entrapment on Rt. 197 in the area of Powder Mill Rd. Tower 43, enroute to training, had come across a single vehicle that struck a guard rail, trapping the driver. Company 14 arrived on scene and stabilized the vehicle. The crew first removed the guard rail that was pinned against the driver’s side of the vehicle. The crew then removed 4 doors, 2 “B-Posts,” and the roof to extricate the driver. Chief 14A [Fabrizio] had the Extrication Group. Company 14 was ready for service at 0912hrs.

 Truck goes to Chapel Oaks

2013-01-13

At 2102 hrs on January 13th, while transferred to Station 28, Truck 14 was alerted to the 4700Blk of Leroy Gorham Dr in Company 38′s area. Engine 38 reported a two story house with smoke showing and located a fire on the first floor. Truck 14 arrived as the second due truck and conducted a search of the 2nd floor, laddered the house, and secured utilities. Truck 14 was ready for service by 2145hrs.
