Technical Rescue Thursday
On Thursday May 7th, 2020 the career and volunteer crews staffing Company 14 responded and operated on two technical rescue calls:
University of Maryland Trench Rescue:
At 1128 Ladder Truck 14 and Ambulance 14 (for rescue tech staffing) were alerted to as apart of the County’s Technical Rescue Team to respond to a construction site on the campus of the University of Maryland, where a large rock had fallen and entrapped a patient in a trench. Career personnel assigned to company 14 entered the trench, packaged the patient and extricated the patient using a high directional set up on the ladder of Truck 14. The patient was turned over to EMS and was transported to a local trauma center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Assist County Police :
At 1755 Rescue Squad 14 and Utility 14 were requested to assist Prince George’s County Police with an ongoing investigation in Beltsville. Volunteer members used the Arizona vortex and rigging systems to assist PD with their investigation.
The Berwyn Heights Volunteer Fire Department takes great pride in being the only volunteer company apart of the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department Technical Rescue Team. All personnel have a high level of knowledge and skill when operating on these specialty incidents. The County’s other Technical Rescue Companies include PGFD Station 806 (Springdale) and PGFD Station 847 (Ft. Washington), both fully staffed by career personnel. BHVFD has career personnel assigned from 7am-3pm Monday through Friday, with evenings, weekends, and holidays staffed fully by volunteer members.
