Position Summary:
The Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Coordinator assists the Membership Director of the Berwyn Heights Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad will assist in developing, leading, and implementing comprehensive effective programs that will attract and retain qualified volunteers to the Berwyn Heights Volunteer Fire Department (BHVFD). The individual fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of the Volunteer Recruitment & Retention Coordinator will at all times present themselves in a courteous, professional and responsible manner.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and manage the Volunteer program including participation requirements, reimbursement policies, volunteer scheduling, training, etc.
- Schedules recruitment and retention activities at community events, develops public relations with the media as well as new partnerships with local businesses, schools, civic organizations, and other community groups as it pertains to recruitment and retention of Volunteers.
- Monitors the program success, researches new programs, and monitors the development of new recruits.
- Develop social media outreach strategies to attract new volunteer members including the development of social media posts, graphics, and videos.
- May attend meetings as requested including staff meetings, Board meetings, volunteer, and training meetings. May also attend conferences, seminars, or training sessions to upgrade job knowledge, management, and communication skills.
- Manages and/or assists with special projects.
- Guild new and potential members through the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department and the BHVFD onboarding process.
- Assist new members with sighing up for Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute (MFRI) courses.
- Work closely with the BHVFD Grants Administrator, President, and Grants Director to manage the Department’s FEMA Staffing for
- Performs special projects, programs, or other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in effective volunteer recruitment and retention activities
- Experience in public speaking and public presentations
- Demonstrated project management experience
- Program development experience
- Working knowledge of Fire/EMS operations preferred but not required.
- Have a working knowledge of clerical filing systems and proficient computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office
- Basic knowledge of document and publication design preferred.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
- High School Graduate or GED Certification. Some level of higher education preferred but now required.
Time Requirements:
Work hours are flexible between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. weekdays, primarily from Berwyn Heights Volunteer Fire Department Station 14 located at 8811 60th Avenue, Berwyn Heights MD 20772. The station is accessible to the Greenbelt Metro station, although reliable transportation is required as the position may require trips to city and county offices. Off-site work, up to two days a month will be evaluated on a case by case basis depending on project demands. The successful candidate will also need to be available at least one weeknight per month (6-10 p.m.), preferably the first Tuesday of each month for our monthly membership meetings, as well as one weekend day per month as needed. The position is paid hourly, on a bi-weekly schedule, and will require up to 20 hours per week. Competitive salary shall be negotiated along with offer of conditional employment.
