
Rescue Squad Runs Working School Fire in Lanham
October 4th: Rescue Squad 14 and its volunteer crew were alerted to the Gaywood Elementary School at 6701 97th Ave in Lanham (Co 48’s area) as the Search Company for reports of smoke from the school. First arriving units found smoke coming from the eves and requested the working fire dispatch. The crew of SQ14 forced entry into the school and located the fire in the utility closet, with extension into the roof. SQ14 conducted searches and ventilated the building, and was later assigned to operate with the companies on the roof to open up the roof and conducting extensive overhaul. The Squad operated for approximately 3hrs until being placed in service. Ambulance 14 remained staffed in quarters to cover the first due.
