Technical Rescue in Company 11’s Area
At 1306 hours while conducting an extrication drill outback of the firehouse, Squad 14 was alerted to the 9300 block of Cherry Hill Rd for reports of maintenance workers being trapped in a trash compactor.
Company 14 arrived to find the maintenance workers hand had become pinned between the trash receiving container and the compactor itself.
Company 11 secured the power to the compactor while Company 14 utilized cribbing, power saws, and Amkus spreaders to cut through and separate a 1-inch steel latching bar from the compactor body to free the worker’s hand.
Chief 14A was in charge of the rescue group. Company 14 was ready for service at 1341 hours.
