Four BHVFD Members Complete Structural Collapse Training Course in Texas

Last week, four members of the Berwyn Heights Volunteer Fire Department headed to College Station, Texas to participate in a Structural Collapse Training Course. The course was offered by TEEX, a well-known institution for providing high-quality, informative training with real-life scenarios developed inside their expansive “Disaster City” training site.

Remembering Chief Walker

On March 25 1945 Chief Clinton Walker, while responding to a brush fire, suddenly felt sick. The engine stopped at his house and he was helped inside, then the engine continued on the call. When they returned they found that Chief Walker had suffered a fatal heart attack.

BHVFD Members Awarded for Bravery

On Thursday, September 14, Fire Chief Barksdale stopped by BHVFD to award volunteers for their actions on an apartment fire on December 10th, 2016. Crews rescued and saved 2 victims from an apartment fire on Dean Drive in Hyattsville.

Squad 14 responded to the Inner Loop of 495 at Kenilworth Ave for a Personal Injury Accident. Upon arrival, units found a vehicle in the center median wedged under the metal guardrail.

First Due Bridge Collapse

At 1500 hours, Company 14 was dispatched to the 5400 block of Berwyn Rd in 14’s 1st due. Company 14 arrived on scene to find that the pedestrian bridge that spans the Metro and MARC train tracks had been struck by a piece of construction equipment and had partially collapsed.
